There have been some signifncant changes to our Summer Mission Trip plans. Please take a moment to read through this letter and call me with any questions (473-2378). DATES: We have moved the mission trip later into the summer. Our departure will be the morning of Friday, July 27. We will arrive back in Mexico, MO on Friday, August 3. REGISTRATION FORM: Click here. LOCATION & HOST CHURCH: We will be traveling to Lafeyete, Colorado (just north of Denver) and parterning with Mountain View Baptist Church to do missions projects throughout the week. We worked with Mountain View church two summer ago and have a very good relationship with their staff and youth group. HOUSING: Families from Mountain View church will be hosting us in their homes. Usually, this involves 4-5 students (same sex) staying together in one home. These families provide breakfeast and the use of their homes for sleeping and showering each day. This arrangement worked wonderfully for us in 2005. MISSIONS: The exact details have not been worked out yet. However, in 2005, our youth group ran a neighborhood Bible club for kids in a poor trailer park, as well as put on three big block party events. We worked closely with Mountain View church to select the ministry sites and activities. Our primary goal is simply to help Mountain View with their efforts to reach out to children and families in their surrounding neighborhoods. HARD WORK: This trip is not easy, nor is it a vacation! There is a lot of setup/tear down work in the hottest weather of the summer. Schedules are tight. Wake-up times are early, plans get changed, and positive attitudes are absolutely required. Our expectations for the students attending this trip are very high! Some students might not be ready for this level of commitment -- and that is perfectly fine. Please honestly evaluate whether your son/daughter could handle this missions trip. MONEY: Mission Trip registration is just $30 per household. This fee is due June 1, along with the application form. We ask that each student bring at least $50 to cover traveling meals, freetime spending and our "night-out" meal. While in Colorado, all meals will be provided with the exception of this one group meal at a mid-priced restaraunt (i.e. Applebees). As you can guess, the $30 does not come close to covering our actual expenses involved this trip! But we want to make this experience available to as many students as possible. There will be fundraising events to support our efforts. WHO's ELIGIBLE? Any student who will be entering grades 8 - 12. Special exceptions may be made for current 6th graders who have demonstrated maturity and committment. In addition, students must participate in the upcoming fundraisers and planning meetings.
