Goodbye Dagwoods!

Goodbye Dagwoods!

What is it about my favorite food places going out of business?

A few years back it was RoJo's -- a little hole-in-the-wall mexican place with the wonderful Chili-Cheese buritto! Then there was that Chinese place out at Teal Lake Plaza (I don't remember the name). Back when we had 4 Chinese restaurants in Mexico, it was 2nd best. Their Mongolian grill set it above the other two buffets. But alas, they didn't survive more than a year.

Last week it was long-established Dagwoods Subs & Salads. Sadly, they closed the doors and appear to be selling out the equipment. Apparently, there were no takers for the $175,000 price tag to buy the store from owner Tom Gittemeier.

Tom ran a great shop -- very friendly staff, the best sandwich prices in town, and (most importantly) the best sandwiches in town! Before him, it was owned by Ron Diehl (spelling?), who also ran a great shop. Some of us old-timers even remember Dagwood's predecessor, Village Cheese & Wine.

Hopefully it's not a sign of the times.

Goodbye Dagwoods!
